International Paper To Relocate
International Paper will relocate its global headquarters to Memphis, Tenn., from Stamford by Aug. 1, 2006. The decision to relocate came after a 30-day evaluation as part of the company's transformation plan. International Paper relocated its operational headquarters from New York City to Memphis in 1987. The company currently employs about 3,000 people there. Its international headquarters in Stamford employs about 150 people. Having all key personnel in one location was cited as an important reason for the decision.

ATMI Invests in Chinese Company
ATMI Inc. of Danbury, a supplier of materials and packaging to semiconductor manufacturers, has purchased a minority interest in Anji Microelectronics, a developer of advanced semiconductor materials in Shanghai, China. The two companies will work together to develop and market advanced semiconductor materials. Terms were not disclosed.

Hamilton Sundstrand Completes Deal
Hamilton Sundstrand of Windsor Locks has finalized a long-term spare parts purchasing agreement with the Japan Airlines Group (JAL). The agreement calls for JAL to purchase select spare parts exclusively from Hamilton Sundstrand for use on the airline's airframe and engine accessories. Hamilton Sundstrand and Japan Airlines also agreed to work toward establishing a long-term supply chain solution, with additional features aimed at helping the airline further control its operating costs while ensuring aircraft availability.

PanAmSat Acquires Satellite
Wilton-based PanAmSat has signed an agreement with Alcatel, a French-based communications company, for the acquisition of multiple European orbital slots as well as a powerful satellite, Europe*Star, with a footprint over Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. As a result of this transaction, PanAmSat will substantially strengthen its presence in the European and Middle Eastern marketplaces, as well as expand its global reach into key growth regions.

Imagistics Purchases Two Companies
Imagistics International Inc. of Trumbull, a direct sales and service imaging company, announced that it has acquired Lakeside Office Systems Ltd., a digital copier dealership of Konica Minolta products in Kelowna, British Columbia, and the office management business of Rentokil Initial of London and Birmingham, England. Terms of the two deals were not announced..

IMS To Merge with Dutch Company
IMS Health of Fairfield, an information and consulting firm for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, and VNU N.V. of Haarlem, The Netherlands, a provider of consumer, marketing and media information and analysis, have announced an agreement to merge in a stock-and-cash transaction currently valued at $7 billion. The combined company will have pro forma 2004 revenues of approximately $5.6 billion.

Otis Lands European Contracts
Otis Elevator of Farmington, has been awarded contracts valued at more than $22 million to install 277 elevators, escalators and Trav-O-Lator moving walkways in six new shopping malls located in Austria and several Eastern European countries.

Pitney Bowes Buys Canadian Firm
Pitney Bowes of Stamford has purchased Danka Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Danka Business Systems PLC, for approximately $14 million. Danka Canada Inc. provides office systems services, supplies and equipment and is based in Toronto. Pitney Bowes provides integrated mail and document management systems and services

Stanley To Buy French Tool Maker
The Stanley Works has offered to purchase the Facom Tools Division of Fimalac for $494 million in cash. Facom produces industrial hand and mechanics tools while New Britain-based Stanley manufactures consumer hand tools. Once the process is completed, it is expected that the transaction would close by year-end 2005 or shortly thereafter. Both Facom and Fimilac, an international business support services group, are based in France.

GE Lands Trinidad Contract
GE Energy, a subsidiary of Fairfield-based General Electric, has signed a $400 million, 17-year contract to replace and service 27 gas turbines and 47 centrifugal compressors at Atlantic LNG Company's production facility in Port Fortin, Trinidad. Three turbo compression trains are currently in production at the Port Fortin facility with a fourth under construction. The total capacity of the plant places Trinidad and Tobago among the top five producers of liquid natural gas in the world.

ThinkGlobal Inc. has received an APEX 2005 publication excellence award for its quarterly ThinkGlobal Connecticut international trade newsletter. The ThinkGlobal international trade publications are available online and are distributed at no charge to manufacturers and service providers involved in international trade. ThinkGlobal also publishes Commercial News USA, the official export promotion magazine of the U.S. Commerce Department.
