![]() Global Business Briefs EMCOR Contracts for Projects in Canada and England EMCOR Group, Inc., a Norwalk-based company that provides mechanical and electrical construction, energy infrastructure and facilities services announced that it has been awarded contracts for major healthcare projects in Canada and the United Kingdom. EMCOR subsidiary Comstock Canada will provide mechanical and electrical installations for five clinical levels, a basement, and a penthouse floor for the Alberta Heart Institute in Edmonton, Canada. Another subsidiary, EMCOR Drake & Scull, will provide general heating, ventilation, power, and lighting installations for St. Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle, England. Terms of the individual contracts were not disclosed. GE Division Opens Joint Venture in China GE Energy, a division of Fairfield-based General Electric, announced a joint venture partnership with Shanghai Xin Hua Control Technology Co., Ltd. through acquisition of a majority share in the latter's engineering division. Xin Hua Control, a privately held company based in Shanghai, designs, manufactures and installs steam turbine and power plant control systems and software for application in power generation, pulp and paper, oil and gas, and general industrial segments. Terms were not disclosed. Subway Opens 200th Restaurant In Mexico Milford-based Subway restaurants announced the opening of its 200th location in Mexico, doubling the number of locations in that country in 12 months. The latest restaurant opened in Mexico City. PanAmSat Expands in China and Mexico PanAmSat Corp., the Wilton-based communications company, announced that it entered into an agreement with China Radio International (CRI) to broadcast 36 audio channels over three of PanAmSat's satellites. CRI is the only overseas broadcaster in the People's Republic of China. PanAmSat also announced that Mexico's Pegaso Banda Ancha has selected PanAmSat to support its new satellite-based broadband Internet service to provide nationwide two-way broadband service in that country. In a related development, Pegaso has also chosen PanAmSat's EdgeAccess system to provide Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. IMS Announces European Agreement with GlaxoSmithKline IMS Health announced an agreement to collaborate with London-based GlaxoSmithKline on a program to improve management of sales force information in GSK's pharmaceuticals business in Europe. IMS Health is a provider of information services to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries based in Fairfield. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. South Korea Chooses Sikorsky VIP Helicopter The Republic of Korea has chosen the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter for its presidential mission, the company has announced. Stratford-based Sikorsky will deliver three S-92 helicopters in a VIP configuration beginning in 2007. Hamilton Sundstrand Inks Deal with Qantas Hamilton Sundstrand, based in Windsor Locks, announced at the Australian International Air Show that it has signed an On-Site Support (OSS) Agreement with Qantas Airways covering electric power system products on the Qantas fleet of 122 large commercial aircraft. The 10-year program will begin in May. Work will be performed at the Qantas maintenance facility in Sydney, Australia. Praxair and Proton Reach Agreement for Distribution in Canada Industrial gases company Praxair, Inc. of Danbury has announced the signing of an agreement with Proton Energy Systems, Inc. to become the exclusive distributor in Canada-as well as a U.S. distributor-for Proton's advanced on-site hydrogen generation systems for the electric utilities industry and other applications. Proton Energy Systems, Inc. is a subsidiary of Distributed Energy Systems Corp. based in Wallingford. Carrier to Open New R&D in China Farmington-based Carrier Corporation, a provider of heating, air conditioning and commercial refrigeration equipment, has announced that it will open a new research and development center in Shanghai, China. It is scheduled to be fully operational by 2008. Carrier will spend approximately $50 million in China over the next five years on R&D, including this center.
