![]() Global Business Briefs Sikorsky Sells Black Hawks to Jordan Sikorsky Aircraft, based in Shelton, recently signed an agreement with the U.S. government to supply the Royal Jordanian Air Force with eight UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters, bringing to 13 the number of Black Hawks in the RJAF. Eppendorf To Open Enfield Facility Eppendorf International, a German supplier of biotech systems and research tools, will convert an existing facility in Enfield to manufacture plastic consumables. The facility is expected to mean 115 new jobs and local investment of $26 million. Hamilton-Sundstrand Delivers Airbus Components Hamilton-Sundstrand, based in Windsor Locks, has begun delivery and testing of components for six systems to be used in the new 555-seat Airbus A380 aircraft. Hamilton-Sundstrand's manufacturing facilities and affiliates in Frankfurt, Turin, Italy, France, and North America are supplying the components for the Airbus temperature control, electricity generation and emergency power systems. The company is also developing the engine control suite for the Rolls-Royce 900 Airbus engines. OMNI To Buy from Greek Shipmaker OMNI Corp. of Stamford will purchase four Suezmax ships and eight product carriers from Hyundai Mipo Shipyard in Athens, Greece for $585 million in cash. The Suezmax vessels were constructed in 2003 and 2004; the product carriers are currently under construction. Otis To Supply United Arab Emirates Farmington-based Otis Elevator Company will supply 98 elevators, escalators, and moving walkways to the Mall of the Emirates, 2.4 million-square foot entertainment and shopping complex and indoor ski resort currently being constructed in Dubai and scheduled to open in September 2005. The equipment order includes 42 elevators, 50 escalators, and six Trav-O-Lator moving walkways. GE Tech Center Opens in Germany General Electric, which has it worldwide headquarters in Fairfield, opened a new European Global Research Center in Garching, Germany, just outside of Munich. The Center continues GE's $4 billion worldwide technology development. The 10,000 square-meter Center eventually will house 150 scientists and engineers who will conduct technology research on alternative energy generation, electrical systems, specialized sensors, and advanced medical imaging technologies. Praxair Awarded Specialty Gas Contract in Taiwan Epistar has awarded Chemax Semiconductor Materials Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Danbury-based Praxair, a contract to supply specialty ultra-high purity ammonia gas delivery systems. Epistar, based in Taiwan, focuses on developing, manufacturing and marketing high-brightness LED products for applications such as traffic lights and visual displays for cellular phones, automobiles and electronic equipment. It is the third contract awarded to Praxair by Epistar in the past five years. PanAmSat Expands in Brazil Autotrac, a Brazilian mobile communications company, has selected Wilton-based PanAmSat's PAS-9 Atlantic Ocean Region satellite to send to and receive data from its transportation vehicles throughout Brazil. PanAmSat Corp. is one of the world's top three satellite operators managing a global fleet of 29 satellites for the delivery of news, sports and other television programming. Chubb Acquires Swiss Company Chubb, a division of United Technologies, has acquired 100% of the shares of privately held Sicur S.A., a Geneva, Switzerland holding company for a consortium of Swiss fire safety companies. The transaction unifies Chubb's ownership of the Sicli trademark in France and Switzerland. Sicur will become part of Chubb's Fire Europe Region, a major company in the European fire safety market. Xerox Unveils Huge Olympic Banner In support of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, held in Athens in August, Stamford-based Xerox Corp. created a massive six-story banner out of the individual portraits of more than 27,000 Xerox employees from more than 60 countries around the world. The banner's overall image depicts the message "Welcome Home" in both English and Greek, celebrating the return of the Olympic Games to its historical birthplace. The banner covers nearly three sides of Xerox's office building in central Athens and will remain in place throughout the fall. ThinkGlobal Receives Award ThinkGlobal Inc., a custom publishing and editorial services company, recently received an APEX 2004 publication excellence award for its ThinkGlobal international trade "newsfolios." ThinkGlobal publishes quarterly international trade newsletters in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts and New York.
