![]() Global Business Briefs Five Eastern European Mobile Operators Select Comverse Comverse, a unit of Comverse Technology Inc. in Woodbury, recently announced that five Eastern European mobile operators, Kyivstar/Ukraine, Telekom Serbja/Serbia, Mobi's/Bosnia, Bakcell/Azerbaijhan and K-Mobile/Kazakhstan recently have selected the Comverse MMSC for commercial deployment. Comverse is one of the world's leading suppliers of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication services. Pall Named Canadian Distributor of Haemonetics Blood Donor Products Pall Corp. of East Hills, NY and Haemonetics Corp., Braintree, Mass., have entered into an exclusive agreement for Pall to distribute Haemonetics blood donor and laboratory processing equipment and disposables in Canada. Haemonetics is a leading supplier of automated blood processing systems used in the collection of platelets, plasma and red cells. Pall sells blood bags and filters used in manual blood processing to blood centers and hospitals around the world. Tajima Industries Buys Assembly Operation Hirsch International Corp., Hauppauge, NY, recently sold its majority ownership interest in Tajima USA Inc., a joint venture with Tokai Industries Sewing Machine Co. Ltd, Kasugai, Japan. Tajima Industries has now assumed full ownership of the company, which assembles an extensive line of Tajima branded commercial embroidery machines for distribution in North America. Xilinx Expands Distribution Channel to India Xilinx Inc., based in San Jose, Calif.-a leading supplier of programmable logic solutions-and Nu Horizons Electronics Corp., based in Melville, NY, a leading distributor of high technology active components, recently announced the expansion of their long-standing product service and market distribution agreement to extend beyond the Americas, specifically into India. Nu Horizons will manage the Xilinx distribution program from its existing facility in Bangalore, in addition to its New Delhi facility, which is scheduled to open in April 2004. Sutherland To Expand India Operations The Sutherland Group, based in Rochester, is expanding its India operations with the opening of a third offshore delivery facility in Chennai. The new 100,000 square foot facility will accommodate 1,500 people and is intended to support the needs of the company's existing U.S.-based clients who require offshore support along with new clients recently acquired by the company. Sutherland India also manages offshore delivery centers in Santhome and Tidel Park. Park Electrochemical Plans New Manufacturing Facility in China Lake Success-based Park Electrochemical Corp. has announced plans to open a new manufacturing facility in the People's Republic of China to support the growing customer demand for advanced multilayer printed circuitry materials in China. The facility will operate under the name Nelco Technology (Zhuhai FTZ) Ltd. ("Nelco Zhuhai"). Nelco Zhuhai will be located approximately 50 miles west of Hong Kong in the Zhuhai Free Trade Zone in Zhuhai, China. It will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Park's Nelco Products Pte. Ltd. business unit located in Singapore. Hain Celestial Acquires Non-Dairy Company in Germany The Hain Celestial Group Inc., based in Melville, announced that its Belgian subsidiary has acquired Natumi AG, a German producer of non-dairy beverages and desserts marketed principally to retail channels in Europe. The acquisition adds Natumi's "Milkfree" brand to the Hain Celestial portfolio and gives the company the ability to produce its own non-dairy beverages and desserts in Europe, meeting the growing demand for non-dairy products. The Hain Celestial Group NY, is a natural, specialty and snack food company. Kodak Promotes Two Executives Eastman Kodak Co., based in Rochester, announced that Karen A. Smith-Pilkington has been appointed chairman and president, Greater Asia Region, reporting to Henri D. Petit, Kodak's director of international regions operations and a senior vice president of the company. Kodak also announced that Ying Yeh has been appointed chairman of greater China, reporting to Smith-Pilkington. ThinkGlobal Receives Export Appreciation Award ThinkGlobal Inc., publisher of the ThinkGlobal New York International Trade Newsfolio, received an export appreciation award from the U.S. Commerce Department during a World Trade Week conference in New York. In addition to the New York "newsfolio," ThinkGlobal produces similar publications for Massachusetts, Connecticut and Florida.
