![]() Global Business Briefs Kadant Receives $4 Million Order from China Kadant Inc., based in Acton, Mass., has received an order for stock-preparation equipment valued at nearly $4 million, from a Chinese producer of recycled whiteboard, a high-quality printable packaging material. The company's Kadant Black Clawson Inc. subsidiary will supply advanced pulping, screening, and cleaning technologies to remove contaminants from recycled pulp and prepare usable fiber for entry into the paper machine. Kadant is a leading supplier of a range of products for the global papermaking and paper recycling industries, including stock-preparation equipment, water-management systems, and paper machine accessories. State Street Awarded Multibillion Euro Depotbank Boston-based State Street Corp., a leading provider of services to institutional investors, has been awarded a multibillion Euro depotbank (custody and accounting) and performance and analytics mandate from Lufthansa German Airlines. In January 2004, State Street was appointed to provide depotbank services for Aventis Pension Trust for U.S.$2.3 billion in assets. Parexel Expands in India Parexel International Corp., based in Boston, has entered into an exclusive strategic collaboration with Synchron Research Services Private Limited, a privately held contract research organization headquartered in Ahmedabad, India. Under the alliance, Parexel will leverage Synchron's capabilities to benefit bio/pharmaceutical clients with expanded geographic coverage and patient recruitment capabilities in India and Bangalore. Founded in 1998, Synchron provides a broad range of Phase I-IV clinical research services including regulatory affairs, quality assurance, statistical analysis and data management capabilities. Parexel is one of the largest biopharmaceutical outsourcing organizations in the world. Perini Receives Contract for Electrical Infrastructure Work in Iraq Perini Corp., based in Framingham, Mass., has been awarded a construction contract for electrical transmission and controls work associated with the Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Program. The contract is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract for up to $500 million worth of work, to be performed over a base period of two years, with options for three additional years. The contract was issued by the Department of Defense, and the work will be managed by the Coalition Provisional Authority's Program Management Office in Iraq. Since September of 2003, Perini has worked on six design/build projects at 29 different locations in Iraq. Sonic Software Inks Deal with Finnish Company Sonic Software, Bedford, Mass., and TeliaSonera Finland, the Finnish profit center of TeliaSonera, the leading telecommunications group in the Nordic-Baltic region, recently announced the successful deployment of an international corporate payment processing service. The service is the first European deployment in a groundbreaking corporate-to-bank (C2B) XML integration project. Quaker Fabric Names European Sales Agent Fall River-based Quaker Fabric Corp. has named Markus Mueller as its exclusive sales agent to represent it in the European market. Mueller is based in Wuppertal, Germany. Quaker Fabric is a leading manufacturer of woven upholstery fabrics for furniture markets in the United States and abroad, and the largest producer of Jacquard upholstery fabric in the world. Haemonetics Chooses Distributor for Blood Donor Products in Canada Haemonetics Corp., Braintree, Mass., and Pall Corp. of East Hills, NY, have entered into an exclusive agreement for Pall to distribute Haemonetics blood donor and laboratory processing equipment and disposables in Canada. Haemonetics is a leading supplier of automated blood processing systems used in the collection of platelets, plasma and red cells. Pall sells blood bags and filters used in manual blood processing to blood centers and hospitals around the world. Biogen Gets Approval for Amevive in Israel Cambridge-based Biogen Idec recently announced that the Israeli Ministry of Health has approved Amevive (Alefacept) for sale in Israel for treatment of adult patients with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque psoriasis who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy. Medison Pharma Ltd. of Petach Tikvah is the Amevive distributor in Israel. ThinkGlobal Receives Export Appreciation Award ThinkGlobal Inc., publisher of the ThinkGlobal Massachusetts International Trade Newsfolio, received an export appreciation award from the U.S. Commerce department during a World Trade Week conference in New York. In addition to the Connecticut "newsfolio," ThinkGlobal produces similar publications for New York, Connecticut and Florida.
