Joint Venture To Publish The Wall Street Journal for India
Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, and Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., publisher of the Times of India and The Economic Times, have announced an agreement on a joint venture to publish The Wall Street Journal for India. The venture will publish the Journal five days a week, edited for global Indian business readers and international business travelers. Dow Jones would own 26 percent of the new venture; Bennett, Coleman would own 74 percent. The newspaper will be edited by Suman Dubey, a leading Indian journalist and currently Dow Jones' corporate representative in India.

Canadian Firm Acquires Rochester-Based Sear-Brown
Stantec, a Canadian company based in Edmonton, Alberta, has signed a letter of intent to acquire Rochester N.Y.-based Sear-Brown, a professional services firm, in a transaction that will represent the largest acquisition to date for Stantec and will give the company a new operating region in the Northeast United States. The acquisition is expected to close at the end of March. Since its founding in 1955, Sear- Brown has grown into a premier engineering design firm.

Smith & Jones Brews Publicity for Star Brand Imports
Star Brand Imports, the U.S. specialty import division of Heineken, has selected Smith & Jones of Troy as its public relations agency of record. The agency is currently working on PR campaigns for the Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr beer brands imported from Germany, Birra Moretti brewed in Northern Italy and Murphy's Stout from Ireland. Star Brand Imports, based in White Plains, was established in 1980 as Fischer Beverages International - the American affiliate of Brasserie Fischer S.A. in Strasbourg, France. In 1996, Brasserie Fischer S.A. was sold to Heineken.

Albany Firm To Acquire Companies in the British Virgin Islands
Vision Real Estate Management and Development Inc., based in Albany, has entered into a letter of intent to acquire Meridian Construction Co. Ltd. and Meridian Piling Inc. - two of the largest construction and piling companies in the British Virgin Islands. The companies being acquired are involved in the development of new hotels and condominiums.

MapInfo Announces Deal with Quebec Distributor
MapInfo Corp., based in Troy, has announced that Korem Inc., which specializes in the development of Web broadcasting solutions using MapInfo technologies, will become its master distributor for Quebec. As a MapInfo partner for the past four years, Korem already has helped to establish MapInfo as a major location-intelligence-solution provider that specifically addresses Quebec's unique geographic and language needs. MapInfo is a global software company that integrates software, data and services.

Albany International To Consolidate European Operations
Albany International Corp. has announced plans to discontinue press fabric and forming fabric manufacturing at its facility in Dieren, the Netherlands, and to discontinue dryer fabric manufacturing at its facility in Bury, Lancashire, England. These actions are part of the Albany-based company's continuing effort to match capacity to the global demand for paper machine clothing. Transition of manufacturing to other Albany International Europe facilities was expected to begin immediately, and to be completed in 2004.

Design Unveiled for New World Trade Center Mass-Transit Hub
World-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava has unveiled a soaring, spectacular design concept for the new World Trade Center Transportation Hub. A glass roof above the hub's freestanding grand pavilion, featuring ribbed arches that evoke visions of a cathedral, will open each year on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Glass and steel wings will rise up to 150 feet, while natural light will reach rail platforms 60 feet below street level. The permanent Transportation Hub will feature seamless pedestrian connections to the World Financial Center and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's proposed Fulton Street Transit Center. The permanent PATH Terminal is expected to begin serving passengers by the end of 2006. All elements of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub are scheduled for completion by 2009.

Richard Bridges, Boston-based account executive for Roanoke Trade Services Inc., has won the 2003 ThinkGlobal sweepstakes. Bridges, whose name was selected in a random drawing, will receive two roundtrip tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies.
